Milepost 5880C: The Backwoods Fest

            IMG_3476

Today Aunt Jeri and Uncle Bob took us to the Backwoods Fest. It is a craft fair held in the woods every year, with fun food and Bluegrass music. The ladies had a great time, and we all got really tired out. Here are some pictures:

Milepost 5880B: Fun & Family

Today we learned how to play Euchre. The ladies beat the socks off the men… It was lots of fun – at least for the ladies!

Later, we had dinner with Aunt Donna and cousin Cathy. Here we are!

Milepost 5880a: Sightseeing Columbus

Today Aunt Jeri and Uncle Bob took us around Columbus. We started at the Kelton House Museum and Garden. This was a waypost on the Underground Railroad. Afterward, we had lunch in German Village, visited a 32-room bookstore, and saw a full-sized replica of the Santa Maria.

Milepost 5880: Aunt Jeri & Uncle Bob

Today we followed the gps to see John’s childhood house in Columbus, then on to Aunt Jeri and Uncle Bob’s house in Reynoldsburg.

We also fixed the terrible odor that had been plaguing us since Florida! The smell was usually there when we started our drive in the morning, but dissipated by noon… But SO obnoxious!!! I tried everything as soon as we smelled it – from the obvious to the obscure… Taking out the trash, plugging all the drains, making sure there is water in the drain traps, deodorizing the holding tanks, crawling around the floor sniffing out dead critters (none found), checking the propane sniffer and for missed propane leaks…. It turns out that I forgot about the shower drain when I was plugging drains! When we left Florida, we refilled our water bottles and I put them back in the tub/shower – not paying attention to the open drain! Since we don’t use the shower (we use it as a closet), the shower drain trap dries out and lets in odors if I don’t have it “closed!” The drain is one of those that just has holes, not a real cover, so it is something I can forget about easily… What a relief to finally solve THAT problem!

We will be staying with Aunt Jeri and Uncle Bob until Sunday.

Milepost 5753: Twisting and Turning Through West Virginia

Today we left the hills of Western Pennsylvania and entered the hills of West Virginia. The roads got unexpectedly worse and more twisted when we passed the state line. It was really a great white knuckler! We were relieved when we finally reached the Ohio River Valley – and then crossed into Ohio for the night. We spent the night in Marietta, Ohio. Today’s travels:

I never knew Pennsylvania has so many mountains! We’ve always gone across the top of Pennsylvania to get to Massachusetts. We’re crossing the bottom this time. We crossed the Appalachian Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, then more Appalachian Mountains! The Blue Ridge are the highest we did today. Below, the mountains from Fourt Loudoun, and a farm.
