Milepost 5345: Nation’s Largest RV Show

Today we went to “the nation’s largest RV show” in Hershey, Pennsylvania. All or most of the RV manufacturers were there, as well as representatives for several campgrounds in states we’ve already visited. (None west of Pennsylvania.) It was HUGE!

We were interested in seeing what new gadgets there are as well as checking out the little teardrop campers. There was something for everyone….

All in all, we had a pretty full day. We spent the night in Hershey, PA, again….

Milepost 5330: Hershey Kisses!

Today’s goal was the Hershey factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania! Sweet!

We took the free factory tour and received a free sample. Always good! Unfortunately, the factory tour was more of an amusement ride through a “factory.” The sample was good, and the ride was fun, though.

 IMG_3256Guess Where????

While there, we noticed an RV show in the stadium next door… Supposedly the largest in the nation. We are planning to check it out tomorrow before looking for the Amish in nearby Lancaster County.

We are spending the night in a town close to Hershey.

Here are some of today’s delights:

Milepost 5146: Farewell…

Leaving loved ones is always one of the hardest things about visiting…

We left Massachusetts today to continue our trek to visit John’s family in Ohio. Since we’re not due there until Tuesday, the 17th, we’re planning to spend some quality time in Pennsylvania, since we sped through so quickly, and Canada is currently out of reach for us.

Some sights along the way:

It always pays to look over the edge when crossing a bridge….

We spent the night in Milford, Pennsylvania.

Milepost 4911: Sept 7–11, Aunt Louise & Uncle Ray’s House, at last!

We arrived at Aunt Louise and Uncle Ray’s house on Saturday, near 2pm as expected, and attended 4pm Mass with them at St. Edward’s – the church across the street from their house! Uncle Ray served…

On the 8th, Aunt Louise had a dinner party with all my “close” relatives in the Northeast attending: Cousins Dean and his wife Shirley, Todd and his current girlfriend, Pete, Susan, Janet and her husband Rich, and Alan. It was great to finally “meet” them as adults! It’s been THAT long since I’ve seen them!

On Sept 11, Aunt Louise and Uncle Ray drove us to Maine, since we’d never been there. We ate at a great seafood restaurant, stopped at the Penny Candy Store, enjoyed home made ice cream, saw salt water taffy being made, and viewed a light house! What a day!

Milepost 4805: Sept 6 - Are We There, Yet?

Aunt Louise called this morning wanting to know our arrival time… She is planning dinner with Everyone Left in New England for Sunday! SO, we shifted to high gear and started “flying” to Massachusetts, hoping to get there Sept 7, around 2 pm!

So, in one day, we left Maryland, drove through Pennsylvania, and half-way across the bottom tip of New York (not New York City)! We are spending the night near Montgomery, New York.

Milepost 4421: A Scenic Drive, Sept 5

I’m a little behind on the posts… Sorry, sort-of. We’ve been having a great time!

On September 5, we took a scenic drive suggested by the Maryland Welcome Center. The lady there was full of hot water!!! I didn’t see Anything that was promised! But, we had an enjoyable drive anyway. A couple of sights:

Milepost 4278: Of History and Deer

September 4!

This morning we didn’t need to travel far to get to Jamestowne in the Colonial National Park. On the way I scoured the woods for woodland creatures who happened to wander into my sight… A sort of hobby of mine in the hope of finally seeing something in the wild! As we traveled I also took note of the houses along the way and their landscaping. We passed a house that had bushes and a couple of deer statues near one of them… It was only as we were past, and too late for a picture that one of those lawn ornaments moved!

We stopped first at some sort of visitor center, thinking it was the one for the National Park. It wasn’t, so we didn’t stay. They had a lot to offer – reproductions of the ships that landed there and lots of costumed actors, but we wanted the real thing. We were glad that we held out for the real thing! Our guide through the Jamestowne part of the park was lots of fun and ready to answer any questions that could be thrown at him. A few pictures from Jamestowne:

Afterwards, we went to the Yorktown Battle site. There wasn’t as much to see, but we were glad we went anyway.
